Candlelight Park

Have a dog that needs to get some exercise? Have a child that dreams of one day driving a bright red fire truck? Indulge your dog in some good off-leash running and let your child hone his fire truck skills all at the same park. Look no further than Candlelight Park, on the corner of Royal Avenue and Throne Drive. With a nice dog park located right next to the playground, you can kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. A couple of chairs are available in the dog park so you can sit and watch the dogs play, and maybe chat with a new friend while the children play at the playground.

Completed in 2007, this is a fairly new playground in a neighborhood of about the same age. While the trees may still be small, the playground equipment is still shiny and begging for boys and girls and the young at heart to come out and play. Drive to a roaring fire on the bright red fire engine, or hop on the merry-go-around for some fun times. Tiny tots will enjoy riding the brightly colored spring loaded bugs or the swing set, which includes several regular swings and one infant swing. The playground structure is impressive, with two slides, a tower, a tunnel to crawl through and monkey bars to climb on. A nice basket ball court with two hoops and a couple benches along the sides is a waiting invitation to grab the basketball and some friends and come to play. Two picnic tables are near by for a lunch or dinner in the park. A water fountain makes sure no one goes thirsty and trash cans are located near by. There are no restrooms however.

A waterway with a bridge over it is located behind the park, inviting wildlife near by, and walk ways wind throughout the park. The park is approximately 12 acres, nearly 4 of which are dedicated to the dog park. Parking is available street side. There is no sign indicating the park’s name, however, the park is very visible and hard to miss.  Plenty of open grass areas provide areas for lying in the sun, a baseball game, or just watching the kids play.
