Gilbert Park
This park has a very unique feel. With the playground enclosed in a circular cement walkway, and lavender, white and yellow daisies blooming around the edges, this neighborhood park seems to have that feeling where you’d expect a small wedding under the tall trees, or find lovers taking a midnight stroll or maybe a toddler learning how to walk.
While not a large park, it has a very welcoming atmosphere. A swing set has both a regular sized swing and an infant swing, and a merry-go-around is a popular attraction. A couple of spring loaded horses are located in the playground area for imaginative children to ride their bucking broncos, and a series of pegs test the balance and skill of slightly older children. Two picnic tables are near the playground for that picnic with all the friends and family.
Two entrances are available to the park, the main one being off of Gilbert Street, which is off of Elmira Road. Elmira Road can be accessed from Hwy 99. A little past the park, Gilbert Street turns a corner and is then Bell Street which ends at Baxter Street. Baxter intersects with Royal Avenue. So if you know the area, this park is fairly easy to navigate to. But it is mostly the locals that know of this park and enjoy the large shade trees and the rowdy merry-go-around games and smell the pleasant smell of lavender plants.
There are no signs indicating that this is Gilbert Park, although a playground sign cautions drivers that a playground is ahead. Standard park hours apply and pets are to be kept on a leash. There are trash cans available and ample lighting. No restrooms or water fountains are available. Street parking is fairly easy to find close by.
So whether you live on a near by street or just want to discover this small park gem, take a moment to relax and grab some family and friends to hang out with you at Gilbert Park.
