Martin Luther King Jr Park
The Martin Luther King Park is not really listed on the Eugene Parks website, but it is a park worth mentioning. The MLK Park is located on Garfield and 10th Street in Eugene and is most easily accessed off of West 11th Street. All you need to do is find Garfield St. and turn north off of 11th. You will be right in front of the park which will offer you a bit of rest and relaxation.
The park is an older park, but it is maintained and in fair condition. You will find basketball, swings for the kids and even a swing seat for the smaller children that need a little extra support. You will see lots of green grass, shade trees, a sand box and climbing toys for the kids. The park has a sidewalk that goes all the way around it’s parameter along with many places that are great for sitting, even though there are only a couple of park benches. The geography of the park is interesting in that it has several mounds where the grass grows so you don’t have to be on the level (although it is usually a good idea), but when it comes to the ground, its no big deal to be slanted…

This park does not have a rest room facility so the closest place to take you or a child that has to ‘go’ would be to walk towards West 11th and visit the Amazon Market. While you are there you can pick up some fruit, water, or whatever you heart desires in the way of sustenance or drinks.
As you can see by the photographs, Martin Luther King Park is a sweet place to bring the kids or just go visit for the heck of it. These neighborhood parks are fun and free so what have you got to loose. Open 7 days a week from 6:00 am till 11:00 pm, which means you will have plenty of time to get to MLK anytime you want. Enjoy your outings this summer at MLK.
