Card lovers, there is no need to plan a Las Vegas or Reno Nevada trip when you can get in on Texas Hold’em games at one of the best card rooms right here in Eugene.
Whether you play Texas Hold’em for fun with your friends or for real money, everyone who loves the game of poker is welcome to the Pocket Pair Card Club located in the back room of the Eldorado Sports Bar and Grill in west Eugene.
The Pocket Pair Card Club hosts “Happy Hour Hold’em” every night. If you are new to the game, you should not be intimidated. Skill levels vary and everyone is welcome to play a couple hands or stay the entire night. If you want to watch or try your hand, they open every night at 5:00 in the evening. Any skill level can join in on games Monday through Saturday for the “no rake” cash games. Nightly tournaments can sit up to 10 people and buy-ins start out at $10 and go up to $50.
Beginners can learn how to play Texas Hold’em Thursday nights. A professional player teaches a class from 4:00 to 5:00 Thursday evenings. If you don’t want to wager too much, buy into beginner games for only 25 cents. You can learn the strategies of the game while keeping losses to a minimum.
Texas Hold’em can be learned in a matter of minutes by anyone. Depending on how well you pick up the rules and strategies you can be playing fairly well with a few hours of practice. But in order to really learn the game, you should play fairly often. While there is no universal set of rules for the game, there is poker etiquette that every player should learn to play the game. Not to mention it’s good to learn the Texas Hold’em lingo.
For those of you who have worked on that poker face and want higher stakes, join the club on Sundays as they host a popular NL Hold’em tournament. They limit Sunday evening tournaments to 30 players and encourage people to call in to reserve a seat (541-255-2275). It’s a $25 buy-in on Sunday tournaments.
The card room is non-smoking. Drinks and food are available and they have pool tables, big screen televisions and other gambling available.
